Weekend Update
Jul. 6th, 2008 02:56 pmI finished the stupid project at work, so now I can do what I want. This is good. We also spent much of the week re-arranging said office, which was not fun but results in a less cluttered space.
As for the 4th of July... well, the afternoon was enjoyable. I went out to the festival at the park strip and listened to live music. I also had funnel cake (my superhero weakness) and browsed some of the shops. I've been very successful at not buying copious amounts of tourista junk.
The evening was less than ideal. I was planning on going out and seeing the fireworks show, and thought that walking would be a nice change of pace, since the show was only about 1 mile from my apartment. On my way there, a man started following me. He looked to be about 40-ish. He started saying stuff like "you look like you need some company" and "why isn't your boyfriend out with you on a night like this" and those kind of insinuating comments, all while eyeballing me up and down... very slimey. I tried to make it clear I was not interested, but I was so unnerved that I probably didn't do a very good job. He kept following me, making increasingly vulgar comments. I didn't want to turn around and go home, since I didn't want him to know where I lived. I figured being in a place with lots of people would be safer (since we were alone on the trail).
When I got to the park, he sat down next to me and kept harassing me. I finally went up to a family and asked if I could sit with them to prevent this guy from harassing me more. At this point I was getting pretty scared, since he didn't leave me alone... he sat there watching me. I ended up calling Kelly being freaked out, and he suggested I get a cab. I did that, and went back to my apartment. I was able to see some of the fireworks, but they were mostly blocked by the apartment behind mine. So, fail. Also, buying pepper spray the next time I go to the store.
As for the weekend, well, I've been feeling a little feverish so I didn't go out much yesterday.
Today I went on a "date" with a girl I met on teh intarwebs. *sigh* It was made of suckage. She seemed really cool by email, thought we were kinda hitting it off- but in person, absolutely 0 chemistry. Nada. She's from Denver and is up here for the summer working as a cook on a train, and is a raver-drug scene type chick. While I don't find that objectionable, I have no frame of reference to work with... so we had nothing to talk about. She was kind of cute, objectively speaking, but subjectively... there was nothing about her that created that low-level "yearning" I expect when I'm attracted to someone. Oh well, can't always bat 100%.
